Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital Foundation, Ontario- Toronto

Holland Bloorview’s Igniting Fitness Possibilities program is a brand new initiative that seeks to inspire and mobilize inactive children and youth, with and without disabilities in the Greater Toronto Area. This two year program will address and overcome barriers to participation by offering inclusive, supported sport and fitness activities in local neighborhoods. The expectation is that, with the right supports and opportunities close to home, kids will discover activities they enjoy, make friends, find role models and develop healthy habits to carry forward into adulthood.

‘Ignite’ will be offered in the GTA by Holland Bloorview and its community partners, including the Abilities Centre, Variety Village, and Toronto Parks. Experts from Holland Bloorview, Variety Village & the Abilities Centre will train the other partners in offering inclusive and adapted sports and fitness activities to build capacity in the community. It is anticipated up to 96 children will participate in the two year pilot project.

Today we're celebrating the #SummerSolstice and #InternationalYogaDay Yoga is an awesome way to help kids develop important physical and mental skills - and it can be easily adapted for all ages and abilities! For younger children, keep practices short and use stories and familiar animals or objects as cues for them to mimic with their poses. For older kids, try building to some more challenging balancing poses or turn inwards to focus on the stress-relieving benefits of the practice. #activekids #yoga
