Investing in Children - Ontario, London

GoodLife Kids Foundation is supporting the annual Thames Valley Special Olympics Track & Field Meet in partnership with Investing in Children. The three-day event hosted at TD Waterhouse Stadium on Western University campus involves nearly 1000 athletes with developmental disabilities from 53 schools in the Thames Valley District School Board. Each athlete is paired up with a peer mentor from their school. Acting as coach, role model and friend, the peer mentor works with their athlete throughout the year, practicing different events and providing support and encouragement. During the event, the peer mentor ensures that the athlete makes it to their events, collects their ribbons, and cheers them on the whole way. Participants in the Thames Valley Special Olympics develop their physical fitness, experience joy, build self-confidence, share skills and build friendships. The event is an opportunity to celebrate abilities and is a positive experience for participants, coaches, families and over 280 volunteers.
