Lawrence Heights Middle School, Ontario- Toronto

GoodLife Kids Foundation is supporting Lawrence Heights Middle School’s Lunch Time Basketball Program.

Lawrence Heights is located in a Toronto community that is noted for high levels of poverty and violence.  Lunch Time Basketball provides students in grades 6-8 with a supervised and caring program that will help lead them to success. Participating students learn basketball drills, skills and play in scrimmages based on ability level.  Students who participate in the program are selected to play on the school’s boys, girls and co-ed basketball teams.

Lunch Time Basketball is a safe place for students of all ability levels to play.  This creates social bonds with students from different grade levels and has changed the school culture. The school has also found positive change in behavioural challenges students previously exhibited when returning to school in the afternoon.

Today we're celebrating the #SummerSolstice and #InternationalYogaDay Yoga is an awesome way to help kids develop important physical and mental skills - and it can be easily adapted for all ages and abilities! For younger children, keep practices short and use stories and familiar animals or objects as cues for them to mimic with their poses. For older kids, try building to some more challenging balancing poses or turn inwards to focus on the stress-relieving benefits of the practice. #activekids #yoga
