Municipality of the District of Lunenburg - Nova Scotia, Lunenburg

GoodLife Kids Foundation is supporting Learn to Sledge and Sledge Hockey Legacy Program in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, NS. Capitalizing on the momentum of hosting the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in January 2016, Lunenburg is building a sledge hockey program that will provide ongoing physical activity opportunities for children with disabilities. Children with and without disabilities ages 10-14 will have the chance to learn the sport of sledge hockey while gaining awareness of barriers to sport, being part of a team, and developing leadership and self-esteem. The program will take place at the fully accessible arena at Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre with sledges, sticks and helmets available for use by participants. The goal of the legacy program is to leverage local interest in the sport to form a permanent Sledge Hockey team on the South Shore for children who wish to pursue the sport long-term.
